i-Kreis 2

On Monday we hosted our second 'Ignite home group'. This time was led by Leonie, one of the young people, with 'support' from us: this meant we talked with her before the evening about what she wanted, and prayed with her, and occasionally quietened people down and stopped the boys from gatecrashing on the evening so she could be heard. This is a major part of what we reckon the home group should look like: the members being creators and leaders rather than sitting and consuming. (the mini gatecrashers were not part of the original plan).

We'd told Leonie that she could try anything. She found a selection of bible verses showing different characteristics of God, and handed them out to us at random, leaving us with about 45 minutes to think this through and then make some kind of creative response. Some people sketched, some drew, and several got all tactile and made some pretty creative clay models.

I'm often surprised by the people we work with. The group went for the bible reading like they were panning for gold, and really thought about how the worship they wanted to give to God. It would be silly to say we then created 'great art' -that wasn't the point: the point was that people would think for themselves about the bible verses, find something new, and respond creatively. Which they did, much more than I expected. At the end, those who wanted to, could talk about what they had done and why. People shared and got encouragement, and listened. Everyone brought a bit, learned a bit, and saw something new.

The next one is in a month.
