The five stages of Peak Oil

The original for this comes from the Ashram blog (who themselves got it from somewhere else) I've changed it slightly to fit our European car culture:

1.DENIAL --- Driving to the big supermarket in the next the village for the mineral water that the local shop doesn't stock, flying to Spain for Christmas.
2.ANGER --- "%$@^#€%# Shell, gouging me at the pump. How dare the government tax my petrol!"
3.BARGAINING --- "The Chinese need to stop using so much oil. My, they're burning six million barrels every day." "We need to get corn farmers to make more ethanol, a 5 % blend would really help." "It's the air industry! Make the low-cost airlines pay tax!"
4.DEPRESSION --- "Civilization as we know it is going to be destroyed. What are we going to do without oil? How can farmers possibly grow any food? It takes so much longer to commute by rail! What will we do for our holidays?! Oh the calamity!"
5.ACCEPTANCE -- "You know what, my ten minute commute by bicycle is far nicer than my hour long commute from my old place."

Which is all very well if you can find reasonable work/affordable housing ten minutes away from your affordable housing/reasonable work.

Of course, I do agree about it being the low-cost airlines' fault - how dare they make luxuries of the landed gentry available for all. Whatever next? Affordable foxhunting for all and sundry?
