We are starting to rehearse for Christmas tonight, but at the moment I’m focused on the January project, which looks very different because we are hoping to work with a dance team from the next village and this afternoon I’ll be meeting the leader of the dance team to decide on the theme for the piece, and to try and sort out how we can combine the two art forms.There are numerous new challenges involved with this, not least that the dance team doesn’t exist yet -the idea being that we support them as they make their first presentation- and that I have very little experience using dance as storytelling. Of course that is on top of the usual challenges for dance in churches- stone floors, steps and other unhelpful features.
If all goes according to plan we will have a dance team and theatre/storytelling team in neighbouring villages, developing the vision of Absolute Story to start and build up other teams that will take on different specialities. The advantage of this is also that instead of one great monolith of a team, we have two smaller, more flexible specialist groups that can meet the needs of their local church much better with much less organisational hassle.
